Lama Ole Nydahl with Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche

Jamgön Kongtrul Rinpoche

The Fourth Jamgön Kongtrul Rinpoche is a master of Tibetan Buddhism and a lineage holder of the Karma Kagyu school. He was recognized and confirmed as a lineage holder by the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Trinle Thaye Dorje. Rinpoche was born in 1995 in Nepal, received a traditional Tibetan education, and completed the traditional three-year retreat. He now divides his time between meditation in retreat and teaching.

Rinpoche has received transmissions and empowerments from high lamas of the lineage, including the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, the head of the Karma Kagyu school.

What Is an Empowerment?

An empowerment is a guided meditation focused on a specific Buddha aspect. The teacher transmits the blessings of the Buddha’s body, speech, and mind, and often also of his qualities and activity. He sows seeds of liberation into the consciousness of those present, enabling them to develop the mind’s full potential.

During the empowerment, we repeat the heart vibrations of the Buddhas—their mantras—and rest in the inseparability of space and joy. Energy fields are awakened that strengthen inner development and remove obstacles and obscurations in body, speech, and mind.

Most importantly, the empowerment creates a connection between our own immediate insight and the wisdom of timeless space. Taking the Buddhist refuge is an integral part of every empowerment.

Rinpoche will share the empowerment of the protector Black Coat (Skt. Mahākāla, Tib. Bernagchen), a Buddha that represents the protective activity of the mind. Black Coat is the main protector in the Karma Kagyu lineage and is directly connected to the Karmapas. Like all Buddha aspects, he embodies the active love and compassion of space.
